The Presidency has announced an impeding state visit by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama to the Republic of Belarus today, Friday, 5 June 2026.
The visit is as a response to an invitation from His Excellency Aleksandr Grigorievich Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus which aims to strengthen diplomatic ties between Ghana and Belarus.
The president’s visit is expected to explore new frontiers in economic, agricultural, and technical cooperation.
Upon arrival in Minsk, President Mahama is expected to lay a wreath at the Victory Monument: a gesture that honours Soviet Army soldiers and Belarusian partisans who showed immense bravery during World War II.
Mr Mahama’s visitation would feature high-level meeting between the two Heads of State including private bilateral talks between both Presidents.
In addition to the high-level meetings, an expanded diplomatic session with ministers and senior officials from both countries would come off with focus on strategic partnerships in Agriculture, Education, and Commerce.
In line with President Mahama’s industrialisation and food security agenda, the president would take a trip to Brest, one of Belarus’ most historic western cities, the region’s largest processors of milk, cheese, and baby products.
President John Mahama’s visit is expected to facilitate knowledge sharing and potential partnerships in agro-processing.
While in Brest, President will take a visit to the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial Complex, where he will pay respects at the site of the 1941 Soviet defence against Nazi forces.
The itinerary includes a visit to Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Europe’s last remaining primaeval forests, a visit that underscores the two countries’ commitment to environmental conservation.
The State Visit further includes the signing of at least four landmark bilateral agreements designed to foster mutual growth and institutional collaboration between Ghana and Belarus.
The President would be expected in Ghana, Accra Tuesday, April 9, 2026.
