President Mahama swears in COP Tetteh Yohuno as IGP

Christian Tetteh Yohuno, a Commissioner of Police (COP), has been sworn in as Ghana’s new Inspector General of Police (IGP) by President John Dramani Mahama.

Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the former police chief, had his appointment revoked, and the swearing-in ceremony was held at the Jubilee House on Friday, March 14, 2025.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications and the Presidential Spokesperson, signed a press release on Thursday, March 13, 2025, announcing COP Yohuno’s appointment.

The statement read:

“President John Dramani Mahama has, in accordance with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State, appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the Inspector-General of Police.”

The release also stated that COP Yohuno brings forty years of experience to the role and is expected to lead the modernization and transformation of the Ghana Police Service.
