President Mahama taking decisive steps on cocoa issues – Dr. Sammy Ayeh

Member of the National Democratic Congress Communication Team, Dr. Sammy Ayeh, has commended President John Mahama for what he describes as decisive leadership in addressing the ongoing cocoa sector controversy and other national concerns.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana programme on Thursday, Dr. Ayeh said the President had responded firmly to the challenges confronting the cocoa industry, which has recently been rocked by export delays, smuggling allegations and payment disputes affecting farmers.

“The president has risen to the occasion,” Dr. Ayeh stated, pointing to measures aimed at stabilising cocoa prices and supporting farmers at a time of global market volatility and local production difficulties.

He said the government’s interventions were intended to protect the livelihoods of thousands of cocoa farmers whose incomes have been strained by uncertainty in the sector.

According to him, stabilising the cocoa industry is critical not only to farming communities but also to the national economy.

Dr. Ayeh also praised the administration’s broader economic recovery efforts and ongoing infrastructure development, arguing that tangible progress was being made despite political criticism.

On education, he disclosed that government had released GHS200 million to the Ghana Education Service for onward distribution to various Senior High Schools under the School Feeding Programme. He said the payment was part of efforts to ensure smooth operations in schools and to ease the burden on families.

The opposition New Patriotic Party has criticised the administration’s cocoa policies, describing them as inadequate. However, Dr. Ayeh dismissed the attacks as partisan, insisting that the government’s actions demonstrate commitment to resolving the late payment to farmers.
