President Mahama to lead nationwide fitness walk

President John Dramani Mahama is set to launch a nationwide keep-fit walk aimed at promoting healthy living, community engagement, and national unity.

The initiative, which will be coordinated through the Ministry of Sports and Recreation under Hon Kofi Iddie Adams, will see thousands of Ghanaians take part in simultaneous five and ten-kilometre walks across all sixteen regions of the country.

The event, organised in partnership with the Millennium Marathon, is expected to be one of the largest fitness gatherings in Ghana’s history.

At a stakeholder meeting in Accra, Mrs Wilhelmina Asamoah, Chief Director of the Ministry, described the event as a chance for Ghanaians to embrace healthier lifestyles while connecting with others in a fun and inclusive atmosphere.

She said the walk could serve as a unifying moment ahead of Ghana’s fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup, building a sense of pride and shared purpose among citizens.

Mrs Asamoah thanked KGL for coming on board as a title sponsor, and announced additional support from MTN and Trillium Ghana. She urged more corporate organisations to lend their support, calling the event “a shared national effort” to promote well-being and unity.

The official launch will take place on Friday, November 14, 2025. President Mahama is expected to flag off the main event at a later date, encouraging widespread participation from Ghanaians of all ages and backgrounds.

The Millennium Marathon, established in 2015 and recognised by World Athletics, has grown into Accra’s premier international half-marathon, drawing runners from around the world. Its partnership with the government on this new campaign reflects a shared commitment to using sports as a tool for social connection and national pride.

The upcoming walk marks a major step in the President’s vision of using sports to bring people together, celebrate Ghana’s vibrant culture, and inspire a more active nation.
