The Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi has rated the government’s overall performance at 50 percent, acknowledging some progress while pointing out unfulfilled promises.
He touted his own record in job creation and infrastructure development within his constituency.
In an interview with 1957 News, the MP acknowledged the efforts of President John Mahama and his administration, stating, “I think President Mahama has done his best so far, but I cannot say they have done all they promised to do as a government.”
He continued, “They have not done badly at all, and you can’t say they haven’t done well at all. They’ve done a lot but have also left many things undone. A lot of the promises made to Ghanaians have not been fulfilled.”
Turning to his own track record, Mr. Baafi was far more confident. He said he has delivered substantial development to his constituency, especially in job creation and infrastructure.
“When you go to my constituency, everybody will testify to the fact that I have brought significant change in terms of the road network and infrastructure projects like recreation and sports. These are visible things people can see.” He said
He also emphasized his work in employment, noting, “I have created a lot of opportunities especially for people who want to work in government, in the private sector, and even those who want to start their own businesses. In the history of Koforidua, no politician has taken more people into the security services than I have. It is unprecedented.”
While acknowledging national shortcomings, the MP made a passionate appeal to voters, urging them to reflect on what the New Patriotic Party has done locally.
“The constituency should look at what NPP did and give us another opportunity. We believe that the NPP is the only political party with the temperament and courage to deliver what Ghanaians truly want. That is what we were doing until the NDC came and disrupted it,” he said.
