Prof Gyampo slams Akufo-Addo gov’t for stopping ‘Meet the Press’ series

Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Professor Ransford Gyampo, has criticized the current administration led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for discontinuing the “Meet the Press” series, a tradition started by former President John Kufuor and continued by his successors, including John Evans Atta Mills and John Dramani Mahama.

In a Facebook post, Prof Gyampo expressed his disappointment, stating that governance is not about entitlement, but about accountability and transparency, exemplified by facing the press.

His comments come on the heels of former President John Mahama’s engagement with the press on Sunday, July 7, 2024.

The “Meet the Press” series provided a platform for presidents to engage with the media and answer questions on their policies and actions.

Although he did not state emphatically, Prof. Gyampo is suggesting that the current administration’s decision to stop the series is a lack of commitment to transparency and accountability.
