Prosecute Drug Kingpins, Not Just Couriers – Ntim Fordjour To NACOC

John Ntim Fordjour, Member of Parliament for Assin South and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, has called for swift, transparent, and non-discriminatory prosecution of individuals implicated in high-profile drug trafficking cases.

The MP’s remarks come in the wake of recent praise for the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) following its interception of 89.74kg of suspected cocaine at Swissport, where four suspects were arrested.

In a pointed message shared on X (formerly Twitter), Fordjour acknowledged NACOC’s vigilance but questioned why prosecutions for two major cocaine busts—valued at $350 million and $150 million respectively—have yet to begin.

“There’s good update on the prosecution of small busts of 89.74kg,” he wrote. “When are the suspects of the big busts of $350 million and $150 million going to begin [facing trial]?”

Fordjour commended NACOC’s “commendable commitment” to combating drug smuggling through Ghana’s ports but raised concerns over what he suggested could be selective justice.

“When will armed operatives storm their houses to arrest them for prosecution?” he asked, implying that high-profile figures may be shielded from accountability.

The MP stressed that Ghana’s zero-tolerance stance on drug trafficking must be seen in action at all levels—not just in cases involving low-level couriers.

“Big busts must not be shielded for small busts to be showcased. Big busts must equally be prosecuted with the same alacrity,” Fordjour stated.

His comments have reignited public calls for transparency and equal justice in the handling of drug-related crimes.
