Public Sector Minister nominee promises to motivate public sector workers with appraisal system

Minister of State nominee for Public Sector Reforms, Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba, has pledged to implement a robust monitoring, evaluation, and appraisal system to boost motivation and productivity in the public sector.

Appearing before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday, February 234 Madam Akanvariba emphasized the importance of performance assessments in driving efficiency.

“If you go to a ministry and you are working with people, there must be performance, there must be appraisals,” she stated.

She believes recognizing and rewarding outstanding performance is crucial in fostering a motivated workforce and improving service delivery.

“Once we are focused on productivity, we must reward those we work with. And how do you reward people? Through an appraisal system and a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation framework.”

Madam Akanvariba’s vision for the public sector includes creating an efficient and responsive system that delivers on the government’s agenda and meets the needs of the people.

She also stressed the importance of good working environments, training, and capacity building to achieve this goal.

The nominee also disclosed that she was a victim of employment revocation when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) took office in 2017.

However, she assured that she would not engage in dismissals but rather focus on implementing the right measures to enhance efficiency in the public sector.
