The Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) of Ghana has suspended its indefinite industrial action, initially announced on October 15, 2024.
This decision comes after the National Labour Commission (NLC) directed the union to halt the strike, paving the way for negotiations.
According to a statement signed by Bernard Adjei, General Secretary of PSWU, the structures of the Union met and have agreed to suspend the industrial action to allow for the negotiations to be done within the stipulated time given by the NLC.
“If the negotiations fail to yield the expected result within the time given by the NLC, we will not hesitate to reactivate the strike action without further notice,” the statement added.
PSWU members subsisting on the Single Spine have been directed to report to work on Monday, October 28, 2024.
The PSWU has communicated this decision to all relevant stakeholders, including the Chief of Staff, Ministers of Employment and Labour Relations, National Security, and Finance, as well as the Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) Ghana.
The statement emphasized the union’s commitment to its members’ interests, stating that they will take decisive action if negotiations falter.
