QNET condemns alleged Canada travel scam in Ghana, denies involvement

QNET has strongly condemned an alleged Canada travel scam uncovered by the Ghana Police Service and has distanced itself from the perpetrators involved.

In a statement issued on Monday, May 11, the company said it was aware of reports that the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Ghana Police Service had arrested more than 100 Ghanaians allegedly linked to a Canada travel scheme falsely represented as QNET.

According to the company, the suspects allegedly deceived victims with promises connected to overseas travel opportunities using the QNET name.

“QNET strongly condemns this alleged case of kidnapping and travel scam. The company dissociates itself from the perpetrators of these crimes,” the statement said.

The company further stressed that it does not engage in fraudulent recruitment schemes, visa arrangements, or unrealistic investment opportunities.

“QNET Ghana dissociates itself from any fraudulent activities, scams, or schemes that promise unrealistic returns, employment opportunities, business prospects, or visa assistance,” the statement noted.

QNET urged the public to verify all travel, recruitment, and business-related offers through official channels before making financial commitments or travelling outside the country.

Deputy Chairman of QNET for Sub-Saharan Africa, Biram Fall, described the allegations as serious and inconsistent with the company’s operations.

“Holding people against their will is a very serious offence, and QNET does not operate in that manner. QNET respects and abides by the laws of Ghana, and everywhere it operates,” he stated.

He added that the company would continue public education efforts to help Ghanaians identify fraudsters who misuse the QNET brand.

“QNET does not offer investment schemes, jobs opportunities abroad or visas in exchange for money. The company does not coerce people into its business by kidnapping or trafficking them,” he said.

The company revealed that it recently organised a media webinar involving about 35 journalists from various media organisations in Ghana to educate participants on misinformation and the misuse of the company’s name and products.

According to QNET, it is also intensifying its anti-fraud awareness campaign across Sub-Saharan Africa through its “QNET Against Scams” initiative, using television, radio, online platforms, social media, billboards, and print media.

The company further disclosed that it is strengthening collaboration with security agencies and working to replicate its partnership with Economic and Organised Crime Office in other parts of West Africa to combat fraud linked to its name.

QNET advised members of the public to verify any opportunity claiming affiliation with the company through its compliance WhatsApp line or official email channels.
