Hundreds of national service personnel on Monday flooded the Greater Accra Regional Office of the National Service Authority (NSA) as the deadline for registration and validation closed, creating long queues and heightened tension at the premises.
The Managing Director of the Authority, Ruth Seddoh, had earlier announced December 22 as the final deadline for the exercise, warning that the registration portal would be closed to personnel who failed to complete the process within the stipulated period.
Metro TV, which visited the office on the deadline day, observed scores of service personnel arriving as early as dawn, hoping to beat the congestion and complete their validation.
However, the overwhelming turnout resulted in slow-moving queues, with many spending several hours waiting to be attended to.
Some frustrated personnel expressed displeasure at the pace of the process, citing delays they said were caused by system challenges and the sheer volume of applicants.
Others complained that despite making several attempts online prior to the deadline, technical difficulties forced them not to complete the process.
“We’ve been here since morning and the line is barely moving,” one service person lamented.
“I applied for reposting on several occasions but all attempts proved futile. We are pleading with management to grant us an extension.”
The aggrieved personnel appealed to the NSA to extend the deadline to allow those affected by technical and logistical challenges to complete their registration, warning that missing the process could have serious implications for their allowances and service records.
The National Service Authority has repeatedly urged service personnel to adhere strictly to registration timelines, stressing that validation is critical to sanitising the system and ensuring accountability in the national service scheme.
