Real Madrid have agreed to sign Chelsea full-back Marc Cucurella in a deal worth over €50 million (£43m), according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Spain international defender reportedly wanted to leave Stamford Bridge this summer due to Chelsea’s inconsistency and now seems set to join Jose Mourinho’s side.
Barcelona and Atletico Madrid were after his signature, but Real Madrid have won the race, bringing an end to his four-year stay with the Blues.
Cucurella heads to Madrid, where they have serious issues at left-back, with Fran Garcia not up to par. The same goes for Ferland Mendy, who spends most of the time injured.
Madrid signed Alvaro Carreras from Benfica last season, but he has failed to live up to expectations, prompting the club to sign Cucurella.
A tenacious defender, he will fit right into Mourinho’s system. After a difficult first season at Chelsea, he found his footing and established himself as one of the best in the world in his position.
