Refund GH₵‎36k unearned salary – Public Accounts Committee to Korle Bu

Management of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital has been tasked by the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament to repay the GH36,000 that was given to some personnel in 2020 as undeserved salaries.

This comes after the facility’s management said that attempts made in the previous two years to obtain the monies from the families of some of the deceased staff members had been fruitless.

According to Mr. Ebenezer Prince Arhin, who serves as the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital’s deputy director of human resources, the facility’s administration would use all reasonable efforts to contact the departed employees’ families in order to recover the funds.

“The unearned salaries are GH¢115,889, 12, Korle Bu has been able to recover GH¢79, 000 plus and the outstanding is GH¢36,000. We have made frantic efforts to recover that amount but some of them are deceased. We have gotten to their next of kin, and we are pursuing them for the money,” He said before the Public Accounts Committee today, Wednesday, January 18, 2023.

However, James Klutse Avedzi, the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, rejected the hospital’s explanation and ordered the facility’s administration to return the unrecovered money to the hospital’s accounts.
