Renal Patient Subsidy System Won’t Sag NHIA- Dr. DaCosta Aboagye

Dr. DaCosta Aboagye, the CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority, has allayed concerns about the national insurance program’s financial viability in the face of issues with dialysis treatment subsidies.

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the MP for Juaboso and leading member of the Health Committee of Parliament, expressed doubts about the NHIA’s ability to manage more financial strains before he provided his promises.

Akandoh issued a warning against extending the National Health Insurance program, pointing out possible consequences if additional demands were made.

Dr. Aboagye responded by outlining the NHIA’s position and approach in an interview that aired on Citi News on May 14.

He revealed that GH¢2 million has been set aside by the authority for the next six months to help patients in renal units all throughout the nation with the expense of their dialysis treatments.

“We are not pushing anything to NHIS. So, in my earlier interview with you, I made it clear that parliament actually gave the national health insurance authority GH¢2 million to help the needy with dialysis services.

“As we wait for the actual cost of the whole dialysis on our NHIS scheme my statement is actually separate from what Mr Akando is saying,” he stated.
