Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, says “resetting Ghana is not just necessary; it is urgent.”
He mentioned at the official unveiling of the One Million Coders programme, a national initiative designed to digitally empower the youth and reshape the economy.
The Communications Minister’s speech was a rallying cry for innovation-led growth, underlining that this is a defining moment in Ghana’s technological evolution.
“We must harness science, technology, and innovation, not as buzzwords, but as tools for inclusive growth,” he stated.
The One Million Coders initiative aims to confront Ghana’s 12% youth unemployment rate by training the country’s young people in high-demand skills such as cybersecurity, data analytics, and software development, aligning closely with the government’s proposed 24-hour economy policy.
According to Sam George, the urgency stems from the alarming digital exclusion affecting rural communities, women, and persons with disabilities.
“One in five of our youth are not in education, employment or training,” he emphasized, “and this programme is designed to bring them in.”
Beyond just employment, Sam George painted a broader picture of national revival, one that includes education reform, entrepreneurship support, and a tech-literate population ready to compete globally.
He concluded, “This is about resetting Ghana, not in words, but in action.”
