Hundreds of residents along the Ofankor-Amasaman stretch in the Greater Accra region have been left homeless after a demolishing exercise earlier today.
The exercise which is to create room for road expansion works affected some houses and shops along the Ofankor – Nsawam stretch.
Nana Poku, a resident and a landlord whose storey building has been marked to be pulled down explained to Original News that they were not served with an early notice about the demolition exercise in order to get themselves prepared by getting their belongings and other assets from the buildings.
He said the MCE engaged all the landlords only about two weeks ago on the exercise after which they pleaded for enough time and for property documentation to be done but to their surprise, they woke up this morning to see caterpillars demolishing their properties.
He called on government to intervene by paying them compensation to cover the cost of building.
Another resident and landlord, Mr. Owusu Sekyere Agyemang who has just returned from the states to settle in Ghana also had his property demolished.
