Resource constraints hinder academic performance of basic school children in Nsuekyir

The lack of educational resources is negatively impacting the academic performance of students in Nsuekyir, an indigenous community in the Winneba Municipality of the Central Region.

According to parents and educationists, the harsh economic conditions in the farming and fishing community make it difficult for them to provide basic necessities like food, notebooks, exercise books, and textbooks for their wards.

Madam Lamisi Adene, Founder of Strong Woman Changemaker Africa, an advocacy organization, this situation has led to consistent absenteeism and dropout rates among students.

To address this challenge, Strong Woman Changemaker Africa, in partnership with Naase Oduma I, Queenmother of Nsuekyir, have donated exercise books, textbooks, and mathematical sets to students in the community.

Madam Adene appealed to the government to prioritize the provision of teaching and learning materials, beyond absorbing school fees, to enhance academic performance.

She also suggested an upscale of the school feeding program to enroll all schools in rural communities.

She believes that education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty, and every child must have access to quality education.
