Former Member of Parliament for Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro and aspiring General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Sylvester Tetteh, has appealed to senior members of the party to end public disagreements and offer guidance as the party prepares for its next internal elections.
Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana with host Moro Awudu, Mr Tetteh expressed concern about recent comments by former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, and the support those remarks received from Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamaklo.
Mr Tetteh said Professor Frimpong Boateng had served the party with distinction and deserved respect, but warned that public statements that create tension within the party were unhelpful at a time when unity was needed most.
He said the party needed the experience and support of its elders, not commentary that unsettled the rank and file.
According to him, such matters should be addressed internally rather than debated in the public space.
Touching on Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamaklo’s assertion that he could not be expelled from the party because he was a founding member, Mr Tetteh said age and experience came with responsibility.
He noted that elders of the party should provide guidance and direction, especially to the younger leadership managing nationwide campaigns.
Mr Tetteh also criticised what he described as double standards, citing instances where individuals associated with the party openly aligned with or supported figures and structures of the opposition National Democratic Congress.
He stressed that the party could not afford mixed signals from its senior figures, especially as it works to rebuild and reposition itself ahead of future elections.
The New Patriotic Party is scheduled to hold its flagbearer election on 31 January 2026, a contest that will determine the candidate to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.
