Riders commends gov’t on okada legalization

The Okada Riders Association of Ghana (ORAG) has expressed gratitude to the President John Dramani Mahama government for fulfilling its campaign promise to legalize and regularize the Okada business.

However, the association has requested that the government reconsider the constitutional requirement to operate a commercial vehicle at the age of 25.

ORAG said approximately 40% of their riders, around 1 million, are between 18 and 25 years old, already engaged in the business.

The association believes that adjusting the age threshold could foster economic growth and job creation.

ORAG has cited concerns over national security and economic impact, stating that displacing a large number of riders could pose risks if they are forced into unemployment.

The association has also requested that the government reconsider their plea and revisit the age requirement.
