RISE-Ghana commends traditional leaders, youth associations for de-escalating Kpasenkpe riot

A non-governmental organization, RISE-Ghana, has commended traditional leaders and youth associations for their role in de-escalating the recent riot in Kpasenkpe.

In a statement, RISE-Ghana expressed its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and property during the impasse.

The organization specifically praised the Chiefs and people of the Kpasenkpe Traditional Council, the Mamprugu Youth Association (MAYA), and the Fulani Youth Association of Ghana (FUYAG) for their timely intervention.

“The incessant attacks have reduced confidence in the police and deepened anti-Fulbe sentiments manifested in reprisal and suspicion is on the ascendancy,” the statement noted.

RISE-Ghana also expressed confidence in the West Mamprusi Police Command’s support for its Community Policing project, which it believes will help reduce crime and promote social cohesion in the area.

The organization called on the host and Fulbe communities to exercise restraint and cooperate with their leadership and security agencies to resolve the conflict.

RISE-Ghana also urged other tribal youth associations to emulate the leadership and partnership exhibited by MAYA and FUYAG in containing and de-escalating the situation.
