The Ghana Police Service has announced a temporary diversion of traffic on the Accra-Kumasi Highway following a road crash involving a heavily loaded articulated truck at Birimso Bridge.
In a public notice shared on social media on Saturday, July 18, the Police said the crash has caused a complete obstruction of the highway, affecting traffic in both directions.
“There is a road crash at Birimso Bridge on the N6 Highway (Accra-Kumasi Highway), involving a heavily loaded articulated truck, resulting in a complete blockade of the road for Accra and Kumasi-bound traffic,” the statement said.

According to the Police, officers from the Eastern South Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) based in Kibi have been deployed to the scene to manage the situation and direct motorists onto alternative routes.
The statement said traffic has been temporarily diverted through Kibi at Nsutam for vehicles travelling towards Accra, while motorists heading to Kumasi are being redirected at Apedwa.

The diversion, the Police said, took effect from 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18.
The Police also appealed to motorists to comply with traffic directions as efforts continue to clear the obstruction.

“Motorists and other road users are advised to cooperate with our officers,” the statement added.
