Roads Minister inaugurates committee to review axle load control programme

Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, has inaugurated a 5-member committee to review the operations of the Axle Load Control Programme in Ghana.

The committee, comprising representatives from National Security, Private Haulage Operators, the Ghana Highway Authority, the Ministry of Transport, and the Ghana Standards Authority, aims to enhance the programme’s effectiveness and efficiency.

The committee’s mandate includes identifying systemic and operational issues that require reforms, investigating any violations of regulatory provisions, evaluating the management of collected fines, and providing recommendations to improve the programme.

The aims to address the issue of overloading, which has been identified as a major factor in the premature deterioration of road pavements and increased traffic accidents.
