Three brilliant young innovators from Kona D/A Primary and Junior High School in the Sekyere South District of the Ashanti Region paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to formally present their trophy from the 2025 Ghana Robotics Competition.
The team, made up of 10-year-old Victoria Tabi Boakye from Basic 5, and JHS 3 students Godfred Ofori, 14, and 13-year-old Austin Osei Okrah had only three days to prepare for the fiercely competitive event. Despite the limited preparation time, the young innovators emerged winners among 74 teams, including 37 middle schools, 26 high schools, and 11 universities.

Their victory makes Kona D/A one of the youngest and least-resourced schools ever to win the national robotics championship.
In addition to the overall national trophy, Austin Osei Okrah was named Best in the Tech’s League, earning the title Controller Conqueror for GRC 2025.
During the presentation ceremony, representatives from the Otumfuo Foundation, Newmont Gold Ghana and Coral Reef Innovation Africa and school leadership reaffirmed that “this achievement is not only a win for Kona but a milestone for Ghana’s broader vision of access, equity, and inclusion in STEM education”.

The students also expressed gratitude to the Foundation, Newmont Ghana, CRIA, their teachers, and their community for believing in them and creating the space to dream and build.
Kona D/A Primary and JHS is currently a beneficiary of a fully equipped 50-seater AI lab stocked with robotics kits,

tablets, trained coaches, and learning content, set up by Coral Reef Innovation Africa with funding from the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation in partnership with Newmont Ghana.
