The 1988 Year Group of St. Roses Senior High School has donated GH₵3,333 to support six inmates of the Nsawam Female Prison to register for National Vocational Training Institute programs, and to cover laboratory expenses for an inmate receiving cancer treatment.
The team also donated assorted clothing, sanitary products, essential medications, and food items to support the inmates’ nutrition and general well-being.
The donation was part of a health outreach the group organised in partnership with Abenatey Ministries and COY Pediatrics. The exercise provided free breast cancer screening and mental health education for officers and inmates.
The outreach focused on raising awareness about breast cancer, its risk factors, and the importance of early detection. It also offered mental health guidance to help inmates build resilience and find healthy ways to cope with confinement.
Dr. Kusi Kyere, a member of the Rosa ’88 group, spoke on maintaining emotional stability in prison. She encouraged the inmates to stay hopeful, reminding them that incarceration does not define their future. She urged them to focus on personal growth, gratitude, and physical activity.
Another member of the group, the founder of COY Pediatrics, led a session on breast cancer awareness. She educated the women on prevention and demonstrated how to perform self-examinations.
Beyond the health sessions, the team presented clothing, sanitary products, essential medicines, and food items to support the inmates’ wellbeing.
The Officer in Charge of the Nsawam Female Prison, DDP Victoria Adzoewodah, thanked the team for their support, saying their kindness had brought comfort and encouragement to the inmates.
