The Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Ghana has responded to reports circulating in Ghanaian media about the alleged involvement of a Russian national accused of secretly recording and distributing intimate videos of Ghanaian women without their consent.
In a statement shared on social media, the Embassy said it had taken note of the reports concerning a “supposedly Russian citizen” who allegedly engaged in sexual activities with Ghanaian women and recorded and circulated the acts without consent.
The diplomatic mission did not confirm the nationality of the suspect but indicated it was aware of the media publications and was following developments.
The case centres on Yaytseslav Trahov, described by some local and foreign media outlets as a “pick-up artist” in his thirties, who allegedly travelled to Ghana and filmed encounters with women using hidden recording devices. Reports claim some of the footage was later shared on social media platforms and a paid Telegram channel.
Ghanaian authorities have since launched investigations into the matter, following formal complaints from about 40 women. Some of the complainants allege they were unaware they were being recorded, while others say they consented to private encounters but did not agree to any form of publication.
The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has confirmed that he has summoned the Russian Ambassador to a meeting in Accra to discuss the allegations and seek cooperation from Russian authorities.
According to Sam George, the government intends to pursue the suspect through international law enforcement channels, including Interpol, and may formally request his extradition if he is confirmed to have left Ghana.
Preliminary investigations suggest the suspect may no longer be in the country. However, officials say this does not diminish the seriousness of the allegations or the state’s resolve to ensure accountability.
Under Ghana’s Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038), the non-consensual publication of intimate images can attract severe penalties, including lengthy prison terms.
