The head of the Sakyiabea Royal Family, Dr. Nana Obuobisa Newman, has strongly condemned what he described as a “malicious and fabricated” claim questioning the lineage of Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III, the Okuapehene.
In a statement issued from Akropong, Dr. Newman said a recent video circulating on social media and comments made at a press conference organised by the Okuapehemea, Nana Afua Obuo Nketiaa II, falsely alleged that Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III was not the biological son of the late Ɔdehye Mrs. Cynthia Akosua Ohene, also known as Ɔdehye Akosua Teiko Agyeman.
“The allegation is utterly false, wicked, and diabolical,” Dr. Newman stated. “It was deliberately fabricated to mislead the public and create confusion within Okuapeman.”
According to him, Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III is the legitimate son of the late Ɔdehye Akosua Teiko and Colonel (Rtd.) Alex Antwi, a former Regional Secretary for the Brong Ahafo Region under the PNDC government. The couple, he added, had three children, including Ɔdehye Yaa Nyarkoa.
He explained that through his mother’s lineage, Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III traces his royal roots directly to the late Nana Akua Sakyiabea II, a former Okuapehemea, and Oseadeeyo Nana Addo Dankwa II, a past Okuapehene. “He is a true royal of the Sakyiabea line and the rightful occupant of the Ofori Kuma Stool,” Dr. Newman emphasised.
The family head also clarified that Ɔdehye Georgina Obuo Yeboaa, one of those making the allegations, is not the Abrewatia (female head) of the Sakyiabea Royal Family as she claims. “At no time has she been selected to that role by family elders,” he said, describing her claim as “false, misleading, and fraudulent.”
Dr. Newman reaffirmed that Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III was duly nominated as Okuapehene after the death of Oseadeeyo Addo Dankwa III in 2015, following the proper customary and legal processes outlined in L.I. 32 of 1960, the Akwapim State Order governing the selection of a new Okuapehene.
He called on all members of the Sakyiabea Royal Family and Okuapeman to remain united and support their leader. “Let us uphold truth, protect our heritage, and preserve the peace and unity of our great state,” he urged.
Dr. Newman also appealed to the media to verify facts before publication, stressing that “truthful and responsible journalism is vital to safeguarding the integrity of our traditional institutions.”
He reaffirmed his commitment to the service of the family, the defence of truth, and the preservation of Okuapeman’s cherished traditions.
