The Member of Parliament for Salaga South, Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, has paid tribute to Ghana’s veteran diplomat, His Excellency Victor Gbeho.
Contributing to a statement on the floor of Parliament, the MP, who spoke on behalf of the Foreign Affairs Committee, said the name Victor Gbeho has long represented diplomacy, foreign affairs and international relations for many Ghanaians.
“Mr. Speaker, growing up in this country and watching the political, administrative and governance landscape, the name Victor Gbeho always stood for diplomacy and international relations. I stand on behalf of the Foreign Affairs Committee to thank the maker of the statement for eulogizing this diplomat who has been a role model to all of us,” she said.
Hon. Zuwera also extended the condolences of the Foreign Affairs Committee to the family and relatives of the departed diplomat.
She noted that the Gbeho family has left an indelible mark on Ghana’s history. “Victor Gbeho remains a reference point. His family has already engraved their name in the annals of this country. His father composed our national anthem, and through that blood of patriotism, his son became a leading diplomat for this country.”
“We are grateful to the Gbeho family and we pray that the Almighty God keeps him in His bosom. It is our hope that all of us, especially young people in public service, will aspire to live the life of the Gbehos and emulate some of the values that the late Mr. Gbeho espoused,” she added.
Hon. Zuwera recalled that during the vetting of the current Minister for Foreign Affairs last year, he mentioned that he would consult former diplomats and foreign ministers, including Ambassador Victor Gbeho.
“May his soul rest in peace,” she concluded.
