Sam George to lead demo over delayed court ruling on anti-gay bill today

Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, is leading a demonstration today, October 8, 2024, to express frustration over the delayed court ruling on the anti-gay bill.

The bill, also known as the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, was passed by Parliament on February 28, 2024, but has since stalled due to a Supreme Court ruling.

Protest leader and Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram Sam George criticizes the delay, emphasizing the bill represents the will of the Ghanaian people.

He urges the Chief Justice to expedite the case, citing the importance of resolving the issue promptly to uphold national values.

Proponents argue the bill protects Ghanaian cultural values and curbs LGBTQ+ influence.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Chief Justice has attributed the delay in hearing the anti-LGBTQ+ case to the parties involved yet to complete the required processes.

According to Justice Elen Ofei Ayeh, Registrar at the Supreme Court, the court will only proceed with the matter once the necessary documents are filed.
