Sammi Awuku has heaped glowing praise on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, describing the former Vice President and NPP flagbearer hopeful as a rare example of sincerity, consistency, and unwavering principle in Ghanaian politics.
Speaking during Dr. Bawumia’s visit to the Akuapem North Constituency on Friday, the Member of Parliament for the area commended his long-standing character, noting that his integrity shines both in public service and in private life. According to Awuku, Dr. Bawumia’s values are not shaped by political convenience but are deeply rooted in genuine conviction.
In a pointed contrast, he referenced individuals who only become suddenly warm and approachable when in search of political favour or positions. “There are people who suddenly become friendly when they need positions,” Awuku remarked. “But Dr. Bawumia has never acted that way. His relationship with people has always been natural and sincere. He does not pretend for political gain.”
Having worked closely with him over the years, Awuku maintained that Dr. Bawumia’s consistent approach to leadership leaves no doubt about his reliability and character. He stressed that such steadiness is what sets him apart in an era where political posturing is often mistaken for genuine leadership.
Awuku also reflected on ongoing internal debates within the party, suggesting that if a man of Dr. Bawumia’s experience and service can be labelled a ‘stranger,’ then less seasoned aspirants would face even more intense scrutiny.
He concluded with a passionate call to NPP delegates, urging them to carefully consider Dr. Bawumia’s proven track record, steadfast principles, and authentic leadership as the party prepares for its important flagbearer contest. According to him, these are the qualities of a true statesman and a leader worthy of the party’s future.
