Sammy Gyamfi gave me $800 after I asked for fuel – Agradaa refutes $10,000 claim

Maverick Ghanaian televangelist, Evangelist Mama Pat, commonly known as Agradaa, has set the records straight on the amount of money she received from Sammy Gyamfi, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Communications Officer.

Agradaa dismissed claims made popular by some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that Sammy Gyamfi handed over $10,000 to her. Instead she stated categorically that the NDC chief communicator dashed her $800.

According to Agradaa, during a spontaneous encounter with Sammy Gyamfi on Saturday, May 10, she apologized for previously criticizing the NDC and John Dramani Mahama ahead of the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

“John Dramani Mahama will be president for 8 years. After everything I did to JM and the NDC, when I met Sammy Gyamfi, he didn’t sack me. He welcomed me with open arms,” she said in a video available to Metrotvonline.com.

Agradaa claimed that after being warmly received by Sammy Gyamfi, she asked him for money to purchase fuel.

“When he was about departing, I asked him for money. He went into his car and gave me dollars. I asked him for fuel, and he gave me $800,” she narrated.

The controversial televangelist further declared “I need more”, noting that Sammy Gyamfi has “won my heart with that gesture.”

She also tackled critics slamming her after the encounter with Sammy Gyamfi, advising them not to be upset or envious because “Today it’s my turn, tomorrow will be your turn.”

Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC National Communications Officer and Acting CEO of GoldBod, has been at the receiving end of social media criticisms and insults after a video of him handing out dollar notes to Agradaa surfaced online.

Responding to the criticism, Sammy Gyamfi described the act as a private gesture of kindness that was unexpectedly made public, stating it reflected his long-standing habit of helping those in need.

“I sincerely thought that I was doing this act of kindness in private, and never imagined the same could find its way into the public space. That is unfortunate and regrettable,” he stated.

He apologized to NDC supporters who felt hurt by his actions, noting that he is” SINCERELY SORRY for this unfortunate act of indiscretion. I respect and appreciate your views.”

Despite the backlash, Sammy Gyamfi emphasized that his commitment to serving the nation remains unchanged.

“Let me state however, that my view of public office as a privilege to serve society, solve problems and help others, has not changed,” he said.

Meanwhile, a section of Ghanaians are calling on President John Dramani Mahama to sack Sammy Gyamfi as the CEO of GoldBod due to a viral video showing him giving a large sum of money, believed to be $10,000, to Agradaa.

They argue that Sammy Gyamfi’s actions violate the Code of Ethics launched by President Mahama, which stipulates that appointees engaging in opulence would be dismissed.

Dr. Frank Bannor, a development economist and Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Economic Research and Public Policy, has backed the call for Sammy Gyamfi’s dismissal.

According to Dr. Bannor, Sammy Gyamfi’s actions directly contravene the president’s code of ethics, which emphasizes modesty and respect for the Ghanaian people.
