A law lecturer at GIMPA, Lawyer Kwaku Anane-Gyinde, has accused Acting Ghana Goldbod CEO, Sammy Gyamfi of breaching Ghana’s Foreign Exchange Act by publicly gifting US dollars to Evangelist Patricia Asiedu, popularly known as Agradaa, and is calling for his dismissal.
His concerns stem from a widely circulated video in which Mr. Gyamfi is seen gifting US dollars to Agradaa.
According to Lawyer Anane-Gyinde, the act contravenes the Foreign Exchange Act, 2006 (Act 723), which prohibits the use of foreign currency in local transactions, advertising, and public displays.
“This is not just a lapse in judgment; it is a direct breach of the law,” the legal expert asserted. “
And when such actions come from someone holding a public office, the implications are far-reaching. The law must be enforced without fear or favour.”
He further urged President John Dramani Mahama to relieve Mr. Gyamfi of his duties, arguing that retaining him in office would damage the credibility of the presidency and overshadow the administration’s achievements.
“Sammy Gyamfi’s continued stay in office could haunt the president and give ammunition to political opponents. It is a betrayal of trust,” he added.
Lawyer Anane-Gyinde also issued a broader caution to political leaders, advising them to place national interest above party loyalty.
“Our country can survive without political parties, but not without respect for law and order,” he warned.
