The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has pushed back against government narratives surrounding the recent high-stakes National Security raid in Sapeiman, with party General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua alleging that the seized assets—large volumes of cash and gold—belong to a prominent member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
During an interview on AsaasePa FM on Wednesday, April 9, Mr. Kodua dismissed claims that parts of the haul were counterfeit, describing the seized gold bars and foreign currency—particularly U.S. dollars—as genuine. He further questioned the government’s motive in labeling the cash as fake, insinuating a cover-up.
“They thought the warehouse belonged to an NPP member, but their investigations proved otherwise—that it belonged to an NDC member, and they know. That’s why they’re saying the currencies are fake,” Kodua asserted.
The National Security operation, which took place in the Ga South Municipality, saw operatives storm a private warehouse and seize an undisclosed amount of Ghanaian cedis and U.S. dollars.
The money was reportedly hidden in unusual ways, including in wooden crates filled with cement, and some of the currency was found in containers marked with Bank of Ghana insignia.
“These are currencies contained in Bank of Ghana boxes, which they admit,” Kodua continued. “If so, how can we say that the contents are also fake?”
The comments have added a political twist to an already sensitive investigation, with implications for both economic and national security governance. Though officials initially suggested that parts of the seized material were counterfeit, no formal report has yet been released detailing the forensic findings of the raid.
