Savannah Region NDC urges Vice President to emulate Mahama’s humility in charity

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Savannah Region has advised Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to follow the example of former President, John Dramani Mahama, by performing charitable acts without seeking to draw attention to himself.

Regional Secretary Salisu Bia Wurbi made this statement during a press conference at the NDC regional secretariat on Tuesday, May 14, where regional and constituency executives gathered to address key issues in the region.

The Vice President is scheduled to commission the refurbished Jakpa Palace on Wednesday, fulfilling a promise he made to the king and overlord of the Gonjaland Traditional Council, Jira Yagbonwura Bekunutu Jewu Soale I, after winning the NPP presidential primaries last year.

However, Wurbi questioned why the Vice President does not emulate Mahama’s humility in doing good, suggesting that Ghanaians are facing economic hardship and should not have their tax money used to fulfill such promises.

He also clarified that the king’s refusal to reside in the Jakpa Palace was due to customary reasons, not the state of the facility.

The Vice President will meet with the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs on Wednesday as part of his campaign tour of the region.
