SEC Boss Slams Former Attorney-General Over Inaction On Corruption Cases

Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), James Klutse-Avedzi, has accused a former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame of stonewalling efforts to hold corrupt public officials accountable.

Speaking on Good Afternoon Ghana with Kwasi Afriyie on Metro TV, Klutse-Avedzi pulled back the curtain on what he described as years of frustration during his time as Chairman of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

“For the eight years I was Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee in the last parliament, I recommended sanctions against certain individuals, but the then Attorney-General failed to take action,” he revealed.

According to him, despite PAC uncovering multiple cases of financial misconduct and misappropriation of public funds, the recommendations for prosecution or administrative sanctions were left unaddressed.

His comments sent shockwaves through the political and civic space, reigniting concerns about the ineffectiveness of Ghana’s anti-corruption ecosystem.

The former PAC chair stressed that despite uncovering several financial infractions through rigorous committee work, prosecution and follow-through were consistently blocked at the executive level.
