Services sector drives October 2025 economic growth – GSS

The services sector accounted for nearly three-quarters of Ghana’s economic growth in October 2025, according to the latest Monthly Indicator of Economic Growth (MIEG) released by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS).

Out of the overall 3.8 per cent provisional growth rate recorded in October 2025, services contributed 74.7 per cent, far outweighing the contributions from industry and agriculture.

The GSS noted that “the services economy continues an upward trend from October 2023 (103.0) to October 2025 (114.7),” underscoring the sector’s sustained expansion over the past two years.

Growth in the services sector stood at 5.5 per cent, marginally lower than the 5.6 per cent recorded in October 2024, but still strong enough to anchor overall economic performance.

According to the report, the growth was “driven largely by Communication and Wholesale and Retail Trade subsectors.”

By comparison, the industry sector, which expanded by 3.0 per cent, contributed 28.7 per cent to total growth, reflecting what the GSS described as “a greater expansion in the industry sector compared to the same period last year.”

The agriculture sector made the smallest contribution, accounting for 1.3 per cent of total growth after recording a 0.9 per cent increase in output.

The report indicated that agricultural activity in October 2025 “was less pronounced than in the same period last year.”

Overall, the GSS said the provisional MIEG estimate of 3.8 per cent for October 2025, compared with 3.0 per cent in October 2024, “indicates a year-on-year growth in output, with stronger economic growth in October 2025 than in October 2024.”
