Six suspects are on the run after reportedly breaking out of custody at the Kotokuraba Police Station on the night of September 11.
The escapees have been identified as Kofi Asifuah, Ernest Kojo, Ekow Arhinful, Toffic Faisal, Henry Kwofie and Innusah Addai. They allegedly overpowered a police inspector around 9:00 pm and fled.
According to reports, the incident happened after the officer on duty sent the station orderly to buy food for the inmates who had complained of hunger. The suspects later requested water, citing non-functioning taps in the cells. When the inspector opened the cell door to provide water, six out of the eight suspects inside pushed their way out and escaped.
The District Police Commander is said to have immediately led a night patrol in search of the fugitives, but the effort did not yield results.
The Central Regional Police Command has since launched a manhunt and is calling on the public to assist with credible information that could lead to the arrest of the escapees.
