Somanya: Man held in custody for violent attack on pregnant girlfriend

Isaac Tetteh Angmortey, 26, is a vehicle washer who assaulted his pregnant girlfriend, 29-year-old Hannah Amedi, and was placed under remand in detention for three weeks by the Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court, which is presided over by Mr. Kwasi Apiatse Abaidoo.

Angmortey will make a court appearance on April 10, 2025, after entering a guilty plea to inflicting harm under Section 84 of the Criminal Code 1960 (Act 29).

Police received a distress call about a pregnant woman being brutally attacked along Mount Mary Road in Somanya, according to prosecuting officer and Police Chief Inspector John Brahene.

Officers quickly detained Angmortey after discovering him abusing Amedi.

The complainant, who is six months pregnant, had several injuries, including swelling on her forehead and blood from her lips, neck, and ears, according to Inspector Brahene. She was referred to the Yilo Krobo District Hospital for treatment after receiving a police medical form.

Amedi had been living with her aunt for around a month as a result of the accused’s violent behavior, according to investigations.

Angmortey stated during police questioning that he had a suspicion his fiancée was seeing another man while he was at work. He claimed that after rushing home and discovering that no one was home, he went to her aunt’s house and attacked her.

The complainant had not lost her unborn child, according to checks conducted at the Yilo Krobo District Hospital.

The attack was denounced by authorities, who emphasized the importance of addressing the growing number of domestic violence cases.
