SONA 2023: Nothing Dishonorable Was Done With COVID-19 Funds – President Akufo-Addo

President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has insisted that his government did nothing dishonorable as far as the COVID-19 expenditures are concerned.

According to the President, despite all the widespread assertions, his government did not misuse the COVID-19 funds.

Delivering the 2023 State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, President Akufo-Addo explained that his government was mindful of the fact that Ghanaians will lose confidence in his government should the pandemic expenditures be abused.

With this, he stressed that the funds were duly used to combat the pandemic and hence the outcome of the COVID-19 Expenditure Audit sanctioned by his government is there as evidence to prove the innocence of his government.

“COVID funds were not misused. It is critical that we do not lose the confidence of the people that the crisis we were all in together was being abused. Nothing dishonorable was done with COVID funds.”

He further mentioned that among other things frontline health workers were given 50 percent tax relief for the period. Also, he said, electricity and water tariffs were subsidized for Ghanaians during the period.

This, he insisted were all funded by the COVID-19 funds.
