Speaker Of Parliament Recalls Recessing MPs Over Emergency

In accordance with the Standing Orders of Parliament, Speaker Alban Bagbin has recalled Members of Parliament to meet for an urgent business.

This means that the legislators who are currently on recess are to cut short their recess to attend to a pressing issue before the house.

In a circular sighted by Metrotvonline.com, the MPs are expected to return to the House for sitting on May 2, 2023.

The House went on break on March 31, 2023, after passing three controversial tax bills which have recently been assented into law by President Akufo-Addo.

Alban Bagbin in the statement wrote: “In exercise of the power conferred on the Speaker by order 42(3) of the Standing Orders of the Parliament of Ghana, I, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, do hereby direct that Parliament shall notwithstanding anything to the contrary, be recalled from recess to sit on Tuesday, the 2nd day of May 2023, at ten o’clock in the forenoon, at Parliament House, Accra, to consider urgent parliamentary business.”
