Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has expressed confidence in the possibility of Andre Ayew earning a place in the Black Stars squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
Despite Ayew being a seasoned veteran, with years of experience at the highest level of football, Adams believes the forward’s current form makes him a strong candidate. He explained that Ayew’s active involvement in club football should not be overlooked, as the 33-year-old continues to contribute on the field.
“I think he is picking up also. Once he has not retired and still playing actively, I won’t be surprised to see him in the Black Stars squad for the World Cup,” Adams shared. The sports minister emphasized that while Ayew’s inclusion is a real possibility, the final decision rests in the hands of Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo.
Ayew, who holds the record as Ghana’s most capped player, remains an iconic figure in the national team. His leadership and experience have seen him represent the country at numerous Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and in multiple World Cups. His potential role in the 2026 World Cup is still a topic of much debate among fans and pundits alike.
However, Kofi Adams made it clear that despite the possibility, the coach’s decision will ultimately guide the final squad selection.
“It is the responsibility of the coach to decide whether to invite him or not,” the Minister clarified.
