SSNIT hotels sale: Ghana Medical Association declares indefinite action

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has declared an indefinite industrial action in solidarity with Organised Labour, effective immediately.

In a press statement signed by Dr. Frank Serebour, President of GMA, and Dr. Richard Selormey, General Secretary, the association directed its members to withdraw Out Patient Department (OPD) services from July 15-17, followed by a withdrawal of Emergency Services from July 18-21. From July 22, all medical services will be withdrawn entirely.

“We are left with no choice but to take this action to press home our demands,” Dr. Serebour stated. “We urge all members to adhere to the roadmap unless otherwise communicated by Council.”

The GMA is protesting the sale of 60% of Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) shares in four hotels, demanding termination of the sale.

“This is a matter of great importance, and we will not back down until our demands are met,” Dr. Selormey emphasized.

The association’s National Executive Council (NEC) held an emergency meeting on July 12 to discuss the development and direct the industrial action.
