SSNIT pension scheme enough to pay benefits for next 40 years – Director General

The Director General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Kwesi Afreh Biney, has revealed that the pension scheme is sustainable and can benefit pensioners for the next 40 years.

The Director made this clarification based on the latest actuarial report carried out by the UK Government Department of Actuarial Services on the sustainability of the SSNIT pension scheme while speaking on the Joy News.

Mr. Biney’s assurance of pension scheme being a reliable source of income for pensioners followed a recent report by the International Labour  Organisation that raised serious concerns about the sustainability of the SSNIT pension scheme.

It would be noteworthy that majority of Ghana’s working populace have little to zero trust in the SSNIT leading many going into investments with feasible returns as days of pension draw closer.

It has also been recorded that pensioners have lamented over the past period of years as unpaid pension funds are overly delayed and dragged.
