Star Oil Ghana Revamps Worawara Government Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit

As part of their social responsibility initiative, Star Oil Ghana has refurbished the Accident and Emergency unit of Worawara Government Hospital, equipping it with state-of-the-art facilities. This upgrade addresses one of the numerous infrastructure deficits that have plagued the hospital since its establishment over seven decades ago.

Established over seventy years ago, Worawara Government Hospital serves as the only referral center for all sub-district facilities and neighboring districts in the Oti Region.

It was recently designated as a regional hospital following the creation of the Oti Region. Despite this upgrade in status, the hospital continued to rely on its original infrastructure, including the outdated Accident and Emergency unit.

The hospital handles a significant volume of cases, with a daily outpatient department servicing over 150 patients, an average of 200-plus monthly emergency cases, and over 500 monthly admissions.

Recognizing the dilapidated nature of this unit, Star Oil stepped in through its social responsibility initiative, refurbishing and equipping it with modern facilities.

In his welcome address, the medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Joseph Mawunyo Apeadodi, noted that despite these challenges, the hospital achieved several milestones last year, including zero maternal mortality out of over 1,000 total deliveries, which included 400 cesarean sections.

The Oti Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Osei Kuffour Afreh, acknowledged that it is time to restore Worawara Government Hospital to its status as a regional hospital. He highlighted the importance of the upgraded Accident and Emergency unit in improving patient care and outcomes.

The Board Chairman of Star Oil Ghana, Togbui Xornametor, emphasized that this gesture is meant to give back to society and urged the users to take good care of the facility. He expressed hope that the new facilities would enhance the hospital’s ability to provide quality healthcare to the people of the Oti Region.

This refurbishment by Star Oil Ghana is a significant step towards addressing the healthcare infrastructure challenges in the region, providing a modern and well-equipped Accident and Emergency unit that will serve the community for years to come.
