The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has launched a scathing attack on the John Mahama administration, accusing it of turning key state institutions into political tools aimed at silencing opposition voices.
Addressing a press conference in Accra, the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, alleged that the government is orchestrating a systematic campaign of harassment and intimidation against NPP members and sympathizers.
“We are deeply concerned about the growing level of political interference in the work of our security agencies and even sections of the judiciary,” Mr. Kodua said.
He claimed that state institutions that are meant to operate independently and impartially have instead become “political weapons” used to suppress dissent and shield government wrongdoing.
According to the NPP, the alleged actions of the Mahama government represent a serious threat to Ghana’s democracy and rule of law.
“Institutions that should protect citizens and ensure justice are now being manipulated to serve partisan ends. This is unacceptable and dangerous for our democracy,” the NPP General Secretary added.
Mr. Kodua urged civil society groups, the media, and the international community to take note of what he described as growing abuse of power and to hold the Mahama administration accountable.
He further assured Ghanaians that the NPP will continue to defend democratic principles and institutional independence, regardless of political pressure.
