Former Adansi Asokwa MP KT Hammond has warned New Patriotic Party presidential hopefuls not to abandon the party if they lose next year’s primaries.
Speaking to party members in the Ashanti Region, Mr Hammond said it would be unacceptable for any candidate to walk away after failing to secure the flagbearer position. He urged aspirants to accept the outcome of the primaries in good faith and continue to work for the party’s success in the 2028 elections.
He reminded the contenders of last year’s incident involving former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen, who left the NPP after the primaries, describing it as a mistake that should not be repeated.
“That is behind us now,” Mr Hammond said. “We are moving forward as one party, and anyone who loses must stay to support the winner.”
The NPP will elect its presidential candidate in January next year as part of preparations for the 2028 general elections.
