Suame Interchange, Kejetia phase II & Kumasi-Western bypass to be completed – President Mahama assures

President John Dramani Mahama has shared key updates and plans for addressing ongoing infrastructure projects in Kumasi and the Ashanti Region.

During his speech at the Mahama Fellowships with the Clergy event at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Great Hall in the Ashanti Region, President Mahama acknowledged that several important projects, such as the Suame Interchange and other roadworks, were initiated during his previous administration but faced delays due to a lack of dedicated funding.

“Other projects, such as the Suame Interchange and other roadworks, were commenced without dedicated funding,” Mahama explained.

However, he reassured the people of Kumasi that efforts were being made to secure the necessary funding to speed up the completion of these critical projects.

“We are looking for funding to speed up the work on these projects so that we can ease the congestion and inconvenience that the residents of Kumasi face,” he added.

In particular, Mahama addressed the ongoing challenges faced by the Kumasi market, including the Kejetia Market Phase Two project, which has come to a halt due to the impact of the debt exchange program. However, with the official negotiations with the creditor committee now concluded, the president indicated that the path is clear for bilateral discussions with the lenders to resume construction on the market.

“Now that we have finished the official negotiations with the official creditor committee, it opens the way for us to have bilateral discussions with the lenders in order that they can resume work on Kumasi market phase two,” Mahama stated.

Looking ahead, the president also outlined plans for the Big Push Programme, which includes the construction of the Kumasi-Western Bypass. This project, according to Mahama, is crucial for reducing congestion in the city, particularly the heavy traffic from articulated cargo trucks. The bypass will provide an alternative route connecting Kumasi to the Mampong and Techiman roads through Ejisu, significantly easing traffic flow in the city.

“There is much to do, and I ask for your prayers that we continue to pray as a people so that God can let us achieve the objective that we have set ourselves to reset our dear nation, Ghana,” Mahama concluded, emphasizing the importance of unity and divine guidance in the nation’s development.
