Support local industries to grow; not the other way round — Okudzeto Ablakwa

Following a misleading publication in the New Crusading Guide about First Sky Construction Company Limited, a local construction company awarded with the Dome-Kitase road construction contract last year, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has said that local industries in Ghana, especially those who are carving a niche for themselves must be supported but not have false allegations peddled against them.

“We have been talking about supporting local content, local industries and when you have companies who have carved a niche for themselves and are doing well, we need to encourage them and so I must commend them,” Mr. Ablakwa said.

During his submission on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on March 17, 2023, Mr. Ablakwa rather applauded the construction firm for being one of the ‘go- to- names’ as far as engineering is concerned in Ghana.

“First Sky is one of the reputable local contractors we have in our country — a giant for that matter, [with] impeccable reputation,” he noted.

Mr. Ablakwa stated that First Sky has a track record that is evident for all to see, citing the road network in the Eastern Corridor road and the Fojoku to Juapong road as references, adding that his constituency has been a beneficiary twice of First Sky Construction.

Mr. Ablakwa, however, blamed the operators of sand-winning and heavy truck users as challenges and major causes of roads found in deplorable states

He urged that routine maintenance of roads must be endorsed in the country to see the lifespan of roads constructed prolonged.

The construction of the Dome-Kitase road started on August 2022 and is expected to be completed within 24 months.
