Suspect in stabbing of Hawa Koomson’s son remanded

An Accra High Court on Thursday remanded Usman Haruna, the suspect who allegedly stabbed Ato Koomson, son of Awutu Senya East Member of Parliament (MP), Mavis Hawa Koomson, into police custody.

Ato Koomson was stabbed during a scuffle at the Electoral Commission (EC) office at Ofaakor near Kasoa in the Central Region on Sunday, June 2, 2024.

Eyewitnesses say the clash erupted over a disagreement regarding the queuing of voters seeking to transfer their votes to the constituency.

Ato Koomson was rushed to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, where he is receiving treatment, while three members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who were also injured are receiving treatment at the Kasoa Polyclinic.

The suspect is scheduled to reappear before the court on June 19, 2024.
