A man suspected of attempting to hijack a taxi in Accra has died after allegedly shooting himself following a crash in the La area, according to witnesses and the taxi driver involved.
The suspect, identified as Ibrahim Mugo, is alleged to have tried to steal the taxi after attempting to shoot the driver.
The taxi driver said the suspect confronted him and attempted to fire at him before taking control of the vehicle and fleeing the scene.
Witnesses said the suspect later lost control of the taxi and crashed into a wall. They said he then allegedly shot himself in the head.
He died at the scene before emergency responders arrived.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are still unclear, and police are expected to investigate the events leading to the attempted hijacking and the man’s death.
No other injuries were immediately reported.
