Member of Parliament for Tain Constituency , Adama Sulemana, says he expects members of the Minority in Parliament to stage a walkout during the approval of the newly vetted Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, today Thursday, November 13.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Metro TV on Thursday, November 13, 2025, the Tain MP said the Minority’s decision to boycott the Appointments Committee’s vote makes it “hypocritical” for them to take part in the approval process on the floor of the House.
“I’m expecting a walkout from them because it will be hypocritical,” he said.
“They refused to take part in the voting, so it would be hypocritical to come to the chamber and even attempt to vote.”
He noted that the report of the Appointments Committee was laid in Parliament on Wednesday and is expected to be taken at 12 noon on Thursday.
“It’s going to be just like any report of the Appointments Committee. It will be debated and decided by majority decision because the minority walked out,” he said.
Adama Sulemana expressed confidence that Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie will be confirmed, saying he had “discharged himself creditably” during the vetting process.
“The majority carries the vote, and I’m sure he will be passed,” he added.
The lawmaker also dismissed suggestions that the Majority side bullies the Minority during debates, insisting that the current Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, is one of the most liberal leaders the House has seen.
“He allows the Minority to have their way,” Sulemana said.
“Every avid listener of this Ninth Parliament will see how the Minority Leader has been given all the opportunities in the world to talk. He has turned opening statements into press conferences.”
According to him, the Majority Leader only insists when “the law is being broken,” adding that it is unfair for the Minority to interpret that as bullying.
“When he insists on the law being followed and they call it being dictatorial, so be it,” he said.
On the issue of parliamentary scheduling, he explained that both leadership sides had already agreed to take the Chief Justice’s approval on Thursday, contrary to earlier suggestions that it be pushed to Friday.
“Leadership had engagements in conclave even without the Speaker, and both sides agreed that it should be taken today,” he said.
“So I don’t see any heat coming out of this. I believe today will be a cool day.”
